KY Railway Museum Pumpkin Patch Express

The KY Railway Museum is a hidden treasure, located at New Haven, KY.  Throughout the year, the museum offers different events for young and old alike.  The museum gives you the opportunity to ride on old passenger cars as the train takes you to your adventure.

This past Sunday my wife, daughter and myself took my grandson to the KY Railway Museum to ride their special train which travels to Charlie Brown’s Great Pumpkin Patch.

The adventure starts when you board and old passenger car and the train starts in motion.  The conductor slowly makes his way down the aisle of the train with his blue conductor cap.  He stops to punch the ticket of each passenger.

After a short ride of looking out of the window at the town and woods that the train passes through, we arrived at The Great Pumpkin Patch.  The first thing we saw was the inflatables.

My grandson enjoyed climbing and jumping inside them.

We then walked on toward the Great Pumpkin Patch, when we came upon a smaller train.  I am sure every child had multiple rides on this.

After several train rides, we had to stop to sample some food.  My grandson enjoyed the hotdogs.

There were some special guests for the children to meet.

Charlie Brown and Snoopy showed up to have pictures made with the children.  After the visit with Charlie Brown and Snoopy, we went to the Great Pumpkin Patch.

At the Great Pumpkin Patch every child got to pick out a pumpkin to take home with them.

After an hour in the park everyone boarded the train for the ride home.  The price charged by the KY Railway Museum covered the train ride, the inflatables, small train rides, meeting Charlie and Snoopy, a play tattoo, a Christmas ornament,  and your own pumpkin.  The only additional out of pocket expense was food and drinks.

The KY Railway Museum offers quite a few adventures and a chance to see and ride on old train cars.  Check them out.

UK Football Defeats EKU

This past Saturday we went to the UK Football Homecoming at the newly remodeled Commonwealth Stadium.  Before going to the game, we stopped to eat at Chili’s.  The restaurant is just off Man O War and Nicholasville road in Lexington, Kentucky.  This was the first time I have eaten at a Chili’s in several years.

I ordered the beef fajita and my daughter ordered the beef and shrimp fajita.  Both orders of fajitas were good.  The part of the meal that I enjoyed the most was the flavor of the beef.  Whatever the combination of spice and seasoning, Chili’s has really hit the mark.

My wife ordered the Margarita Chicken Bowl.  This entrée  is composed of a grilled chicken breast top with a pico de gallo and crisp tortilla strips.  All of this rest upon citrus rice and black beans.

After the good meal, we made our way to Commonwealth Stadium to watch the Wildcats.  The first half of the game ended with the CATS up by one point.  The CATS did not look like the same team we saw last week that knocked off a nationally ranked opponent.

I think that the Wildcats saw this as an easy win and were not up for the game.  EKU on the other hand had come to play football.  I just knew that the UK coaching staff would get the team’s attention at half time and we would see a different game in the third quarter.

I was right but I had the teams mixed up.  EKU came out and scored, taking a 13 to 7 lead on the Wildcats.  Kentucky quickly answered with six points to tie the game and I thought all is well.  EKU by this time had figured out that they could win this game. The Colonels scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to take a 27 – 13 lead.

With 7:39 remaining in the game when EKU scored the second touchdown, things did not look good for the Wildcats. UK used only about two and a half minutes to move the ball down the field to score a touchdown to bring the score to 27 – 20.  The two teams fought until UK was able to score again with less than a minute to go.

Tied at 27 the teams went into overtime.  UK got the ball first and was able to score bringing the score to 34-27 UK.  The Colonels failed to score during their turn, giving the wildcats their fourth win of the season.
