University of Kentucky Football

After a great steak dinner at Malone’s, my oldest daughter and I went to the newly remodeled Commonwealth Stadium to watch the University of Kentucky Wildcats football team.

The fan turn out for the game was great the parking lots were full and there were lots of tailgaters.  It’s great to see this much excitement about UK football.

After walking through the parking lots we walked over to the Nutter Field House for the Cat Walk.  This is a great event were the football team walks from the field house to Commonwealth Stadium.  The fans line both sides of the path and cheers the team as they pass.

When the team passed into the stadium we walked over to the Green Lot to watch a concert.  The concert was Sundy Best.  Their lead singer is Nick Jamerson who attended college at Pikeville.  This is a great band and if you have not heard them you need to give them listen.

The newly remodeled stadium looked great and the football team looked great the first half.

The second half turned out to be a football game but the wildcat hung on to get the win.

UK and quarterback Patrick Towles will face South Carolina at South Carolina next week.  We beat Carolina last year and if we hope to get to a bowl we will need to beat them again this year.

Malone’s Steak House at Hamburg

Before going to the University of Kentucky football game, my daughter and I went to Malone’s Steak House for a good meal.  As we do most of the time, we went to the Malone’s at Hamburg.  The address is 1920 Pleasant Ridge Drive, Lexington.  It has a great environment and the staff and management are always friendly and informative.  We started the meal with one of my favorite appetizers, fried Calamari.

The Sweet-n-Spicy Calamari as it is listed on the menu, is made up of calamari, red peppers and banana pepper fried with a lite batter. Malone’s serves them with a sweet and spicy chili sauce.

For our meals we both decided to have the twin filets which come with hot bread a bottomless Lexingtonian salad and one side item. I ordered my filets with a Kentucky Bourbon BBQ sauce and Crispy Onions.  It was one of the best steaks that I have ever eaten.  On my last visit to Malone’s I had the twin filets with Rockefeller Au Gratin.  The Bourbon BBQ is by far the better choice in my opinion.

My daughter ordered the Twin Filets with Blue Cheese Au Gratin.  The Filets were served with the crusted Blue Cheese on the top of them.

Both of our orders were cooked to Medium Rare as ordered.  The steaks were as always, tender and juicy.  For one of the best steaks in Lexington you must go the Malone’s Steak House.
