Before leaving New England I decided to take a day trip to Martha’s Vineyard. I drove to 1 Cowdry Road, Woods Hole MA to get to the Steamship Authority. The Steamship Authority runs the ferry service to Martha’s Vineyard. They offer two types of service, one will take you and your car the other is passengers only and is much faster. I chose the high speed ferry which got us there in about a hour.
The ride to Martha’s Vineyard is windy and you can feel the roll of the waves. We enjoyed the ride but if you have problems with motion sickness you may wish to take something.
I arrived at Martha’s Vineyard in about a hour.
The town we arrived at was Vineyard Haven. We enjoyed walking around looking at the different shops.
They have great bus service on the island and for a day trip to Martha’s Vineyard it is all you would need. We took a bus from Vineyard Haven to Edgartown. I enjoyed having someone else driving so that I could enjoy the views.
We loved the shops in Edgartown. They are small and friendly with lots of different items to look at.
I found a great place to eat called the Seafood Shanty.
When I think of a Shanty, this is not what comes to my mind. The restaurant offers dinning inside or out with nice views from the upper deck area. The food was great and the service of wonderful.
I had the fisherman’s platter which you can see in the picture above was heaped high on my plate. My Mother had the Fish and Chips and my wife had the lobster. All three meals were great.
After the meal I was not surprised that we shopped some more.
As the sun began to set we left Martha’s Vineyard on the high speed ferry.
