The Common Man Restaurant

After a visit to Mitch’s Maples in Chester, Vermont, we drove to Claremont, New Hampshire. Once we arrived, we ate supper at the Common Man Restaurant, On our trip to Golden Pond we had eaten at the Common Man Restaurant in Ashland, New Hampshire, which we enjoyed.  The Claremont location is great with a view of the Sugar River behind the restaurant, I wish it had been warm enough for us to have sat outside.

The Common Man Restaurant starts you off with hot breads and soft butter. They also have a serve your self cheese bar.

I of course tried about three different cheese that the Common Man Restaurant was offering. Our grandson was not adventurous. He wanted only the hard cheese.

For her meal my wife had the steak tip salad.

I had the smokehouse burger. It was different from any that i can recall having. It had a red onion jam and a smoky aioli. This was along with cheese and bacon.

Our grandson again chose to have chicken and fries.

If you are wondering if the Common Man Restaurant was good, I think this answers the question.

Before you leave, take time to walk around Claremont. The Common Man Restaurant has a hotel next to the restaurant which was once an old mill and the views of the river and falls are nice.

Covered Bridges and the Brick Store

When traveling in northern New Hampshire I decided to check out the covered bridges and the Brick Store. Both New Hampshire and Vermont have a number of old covered bridges. Below I have included some photos and information on some of them.

I continued North in New Hampshire to see the Old Man of the Mountain.  I should have read more about it.  When I arrived I found that the Old Man is no longer on the mountain.  The rock formation which formed the old man gave way several years ago.  The park service did hang a metal plate that shows what the rock formation once looked like.

Driving South again I came to Bath, New Hampshire where I stopped at The Brick Store.  The store is located at 21 Lisbon Road.  The Brick Store is the oldest general store in the US. it was built in 1790 and is still going strong. I enjoyed a good cup of coffee and some of the homemade fudge, but they also have a deli that looked good. They have a good selection of regional foods such as smoked meats, cheeses and maple syrup.
