J J’s Restaurant and Sports Bar

J J’s Restaurant and Sports Bar in Abingdon Virgina is a really nice place to eat. Most of the time when we travel to Abingdon we eat at the Tavern or the Peppermill. Both of these places are great places to eat. However, on our last trip we were just passing through on our wat home from South Carolina.  We wanted to find a place with good food and faster service. After reading several reviews we decided to try J J’s. The Restaurant is located at 115 Charwood Drive in Abingdon Virgina.

Like most sports bars J J’s Restaurant has the walls all covered with sports memorabilia and TV’s.  The seating is high tops booths or bar. The people are nice and welcoming, and the food is great. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Nachos.  Which had Bar B Q, Beans, Tomatoes, Jalapenos, Onions, Salsa and Sour Cream covering the Pork and Chips. I had to try them, and they were great.

I had the Quatar Pound Burger. It is a smaller version of their Best Burger.  It has lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, and Cheese.  The Burger also comes with their house chips. You may find a burger as good as this one but not one any better than this. J J’s Restaurant really has this nailed down.

If you are Abingdon and like us looking for something different or faster, try J J’s Restaurant and Sports Bar.

Fort William Henry

Fort William Henry

I found Fort William Henry to be one of the best stops for people interested in history. The fort is located just a little west of the Lake George Battlefield in Northern New York. The building of the fort was ordered by William Johnson. The construction was over seen by William Eyer a British military engineer.

The fort was attacked twice by the French and Indians. The first attack occurred while Eyer was the forts commander. Eyer was able to repel the assault and hold the fort. The second attack which is better known was made famous by the novel “Last of the Mohicans”   and by the Fort William Henry massacre. The fort which was destroyed in the second attack has been restored back to what it was at the time of the attack.

The fort when it was fully occupied was the third largest settlement in the English colonies. Only New York and Philadelphia had larger populations.

While touring the fort you will meet several reenactors, who will help to bring it all to life for you. They fire both muskets and cannon as well as guide you on ghost tours on select nights. I have not been on the ghost tour but I think it could be interesting.
