York Maine and Nubble Lighthouse

York Maine is one of the greatest places that I have ever visited. Our first visit was by accident. We were traveling North from Boston on our tour of New England and had failed to make a reservation for the night. As the sun began to set we arrived at York Maine.

Driving North up the coast we passed some great looking older motels. One that we loved, Anchorage Motor Inn, had a great view of the Nubble lighthouse and the ocean. We drove past the motel to get to the lighthouse before we lost all light.

The Nubble lighthouse is the best lighthouse that we have ever seen. I think it is the perfect example of a lighthouse. Not having enough time to look at and photograph the lighthouse, we decided to spend the night at York.

We drove back to the motel, Anchorage Motor Inn, that we had seen driving in. The second floor of the motel had tables and chairs overlooking the ocean. I asked for and got a room on the second floor near one of the sitting areas.

The gentleman at the front desk was great. He recommended places to eat and things to see. Then as I was leaving he made one last recommendation. He told me that the sunrise was beautiful and something to see as the sun rises out of the ocean.

That night we walked across the street to the Sun N Surf restaurant  and got lobster rolls to go for supper. We sat outside at the table overlooking the ocean and enjoyed our food and the beautiful view.

The next morning my wife and I got up early and walked on the rocky beach in front of the motel, drank our coffee that they gave me at the front desk and watched a beautiful sunrise.  For breakfast that morning we drove a short distance south of the resort to a little restaurant called the Lobster Cove, which had a lot of local customers.  We were seated by the window facing the ocean.  The only thing better than the view was the food.  Staff was great and very friendly and my breakfast was the best breakfast that I the entire trip.

Before leaving York we drove back to the lighthouse to get some better photos and views of the little island it sits on and ocean around it.

If you ever travel up the New England Coast, York Maine is a must stop.  We enjoyed our time there and made plans to return.

UK Football Defeats EKU

This past Saturday we went to the UK Football Homecoming at the newly remodeled Commonwealth Stadium.  Before going to the game, we stopped to eat at Chili’s.  The restaurant is just off Man O War and Nicholasville road in Lexington, Kentucky.  This was the first time I have eaten at a Chili’s in several years.

I ordered the beef fajita and my daughter ordered the beef and shrimp fajita.  Both orders of fajitas were good.  The part of the meal that I enjoyed the most was the flavor of the beef.  Whatever the combination of spice and seasoning, Chili’s has really hit the mark.

My wife ordered the Margarita Chicken Bowl.  This entrée  is composed of a grilled chicken breast top with a pico de gallo and crisp tortilla strips.  All of this rest upon citrus rice and black beans.

After the good meal, we made our way to Commonwealth Stadium to watch the Wildcats.  The first half of the game ended with the CATS up by one point.  The CATS did not look like the same team we saw last week that knocked off a nationally ranked opponent.

I think that the Wildcats saw this as an easy win and were not up for the game.  EKU on the other hand had come to play football.  I just knew that the UK coaching staff would get the team’s attention at half time and we would see a different game in the third quarter.

I was right but I had the teams mixed up.  EKU came out and scored, taking a 13 to 7 lead on the Wildcats.  Kentucky quickly answered with six points to tie the game and I thought all is well.  EKU by this time had figured out that they could win this game. The Colonels scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to take a 27 – 13 lead.

With 7:39 remaining in the game when EKU scored the second touchdown, things did not look good for the Wildcats. UK used only about two and a half minutes to move the ball down the field to score a touchdown to bring the score to 27 – 20.  The two teams fought until UK was able to score again with less than a minute to go.

Tied at 27 the teams went into overtime.  UK got the ball first and was able to score bringing the score to 34-27 UK.  The Colonels failed to score during their turn, giving the wildcats their fourth win of the season.
