UK Football defeats Missouri

There’s nothing better than UK Football and good food.  We went to the game Saturday and had a great time.  Before the game we went to Cheddar’s for a good meal.  The Cheddar’s restaurant we went to is located at 3094 Helmsdale Place, Lexington. It’s in a shopping center near Hamburg.  For those who have not been there, stop and give it a try.  They have a wide selection on the menu.  The prices are not high and the amount of food is very generous. One of the owners of Cheddars is Phil Greer, who you may remember from his days playing football at the University of Kentucky and at Jenkins High School.

I ordered what I order most of the time, the Smokehouse Burger.  This burger is huge and it comes with a thick patty of meat, the kind you would fix at home on the grill.  Melted cheese, BBQ sauce, fried onions and the standard lettuce, tomato, and pickles finish off the burger.  The Smokehouse also comes with an order of fries.

My wife and daughter ordered the Chicken Tenders.  This is a plate which could be shared by two people.  You can order the tenders either plain or buffalo style.  The buffalo style is hot, you will know your eating it.  The tenders come with two sides and your choice of dipping sauce.  After a good meal and conversation we said goodbye to our daughter and headed to the game.

The Wildcats were ready to play football.  Unlike last week against Florida, when I felt that the fans and the team never really got going, this Saturday was great.  There was an energy in the air.  Some calls were made by the officials that seemed to give both the team and the fans the edge we needed to win.

As the game ended, UK staff quickly lowered the goal post before the fans had a chance to do it for them.  A nice road trip with good food, UK Football and a SEC win, can’t get any better.

UK Football, City Barbeque

We drove to Lexington Saturday for football and City Barbeque.  Saturday was planned as a great day of good food, tailgating and great football.  Well, we ended up getting two out of three.

We started the day by going to City Barbeque.  My wife had place the order on-line the night before.  This is great tool to take advantage of as you check the menu, select what you want and tell them the pickup time.

When we arrived our order was packaged and ready except for the fries and pork barbecue.   They wait until you arrive to place them in the bag to ensure they will be hot and fresh for you.  We ordered the family pack which includes: pulled pork, buns, cornbread, and two pints of sides which is enough for four people.

Along with the pulled pork and cornbread, we ordered an extra side of slaw.  With my grandson coming to tailgate with us, we also placed an order of Mac and Cheese and Chicken tenders.

The pulled pork was great.  It is some of the best BBQ I have ever eaten. City Barbeque has different sauces to pick from, but the pulled pork can stand on its own without a sauce.  The chicken tenders were also great.  The meat was tender and juicy  and the breading was perfection.  The fries were hot and good, the slaw was sweet but not too sweet and added to the pulled porks’ flavor.  The Mac and Cheese was good, real good.

We enjoyed our time eating and visiting, then we went to the game.  It is always fun to go to Commonwealth Stadium to watch the Wildcats, but sometimes it’s more fun than others.  This was not one of those times.  Florida defeated the Cats in a close game 14-9, but we had great food and a nice visit.
